Hello October

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, and like many cities and towns across the U.S., our town hosted a Buddy Walk.

Our local Buddy Walk is very casual and laid back - which is really good considering all I own is made of either denim or cotton... or cotton denim...  At any rate, the Buddy Walk is a great time to talk with other parents of children with Down syndrome face-to-face, and for someone who relies on the internet for interactions with other parents, it was a great refresher course in human interactions. I don't get out much.

Mimi and Pop came too, and I was able to drag Broadway to the event also. Iraq and The Skink loved all the activities set up for the younger kids!

There was a bit of a chill in the air which was great for all the jumping and walking which otherwise would have resulted in a very sweaty day. It was not so great for my sinus infection and laryngitis, but honestly I didn't mind all that much. I mean, what was I going to do? Whine? I couldn't even talk!

After the walk, The Skink found a great playground, so we hung out even longer.

And a fun time was had by all.

October is also known as being a spooky time of year. My own little spook wanted to "practice" for Halloween today. We had fun painting her face and then went outside for a creepy photo shoot.

I think this look suits her...

So now I'm on antibiotics to prevent me from coughing up a lung, and my voice is making a return which is good because now I can shriek in feigned terror when my 8-year-old pops out from behind a door in hopes of scaring me to death. It's all good... after all, that's what October is for!
